In Dog We Trust

A Specialist Greyhound, Sighthound and Lurcher Walking Service Based Near Hersham, Surrey

Why should I choose you to walk my hound over the many other dog walking services available?

I retired from the Metropolitan Police in 2011 following 30 years exemplary service*. I will be professionally aware regarding your home security and privacy. Any house keys given to me will be stored securely with no address identification tags attached to them.

*Certificate can be produced on request

Although I will walk any breed of dog, as a greyhound owner I have a specific interest in and knowledge of the greyhound and its idiosyncrasies. Your hound will receive the same care and attention as if they were my own. Being connected to the WGW kennels, I benefit from being able to liaise with their team of experienced staff if you have an issue or problem with your hound that I cannot answer or resolve.

I have attended courses in Dog Training Techniques and Dog Behaviour at Berkshire College of Agriculture as well as a clicker training course. These have given me hands on experience of many breeds and a further insight into canine behaviour and communication.

The vehicle I use is an unliveried Citroen Berlingo Multispace. It is fitted with custom built ‘Barjo’ tailgate guard and bulkhead guard for extra safety. The van benefits from factory fitted air conditioning and is additionally equipped with two internal fans located in the load space area. It also has a ramp for elderly or infirm dogs. The rear windows and tailgate are fully tinted both for security and, during the hot summer months, extra comfort. Water and an animal first aid kit is carried at all times.

I am registered with UK Dog Walkers and abide by their dog walkers’ code of conduct.

What areas does your service operate in and where will you walk my hound?

As I’m currently a ‘one man band’ the number of walks I am able to offer, the number of clients I can take on, and the geographical areas I can cover are inevitably restricted. This does mean though that your hound will receive individual attention on their walk and, should you wish, I can spend time helping to resolve any issues you may have identified with your hound. However, please note I am neither a qualified dog trainer nor a canine behaviour expert.

I can collect hounds within an approximate 3 mile radius of Shepperton eg Walton, Weybridge, Hersham, Hampton, Laleham, Ashford and Sunbury.

We are spoilt for choice in this area with safe, scenic and interesting walks for your hound to enjoy. My regular walks currently take in Richmond Park, Desborough Island, Molesey Heath, Bull Dog Island (secure enclosure), Kempton Park Gate 6 (secure enclosure), Esher Woods, Chertsey Meads, Laleham Park and occasionally Sunbury Park, Hurst Meadows, Bushy Park and Hatherop Park.

All walks involve varying degrees of interaction with other breeds of dog depending on the location.

Will you walk my hound on or off lead?

I’m not generally able to allow client’s greyhounds off lead during their walk although there can be the occasional exception.

However obedient and reliable their recall with you I hope you will understand that, given the inbuilt prey instinct of greyhounds and the speed at which they can cover a large distance, the risk to both your hound as well as the other dogs in my care is just too great. I’m always willing to discuss this issue with you although it is a condition of my insurance that I obtain a signed disclaimer in the event of me agreeing to walk your hound off lead.

Are you insured?

I have both public liability insurance and care, custody and control insurance with Cliverton Insurance. The certificate can be produced on request.

How many hounds do you walk?

On average I take just 3 or 4 dogs on each walk. I will walk no more than six dogs at any one time. This ensures that walks are undertaken in a controlled and calm manner with a small and select client base. As I will be collecting no more than six dogs for any one walk within a limited geographical area this means your hound will spend little time in transit.

I am unable to walk bitches in season.

*Please note I often walk other breeds together with greyhounds. I ensure that all the dogs I take on are carefully introduced to each other and socialized so that we’re able to enjoy our walks together as a peaceful pack.

Can I cancel a walk?

Walks may be cancelled by phone with at least 24 hours notice with no charge.

What happens if there is an emergency and my hound is injured?

Having completed a Canine First Aid course at Berkshire College of Agriculture I will assess the injury and treat it as necessary at the scene. I will then contact you or a family member using the phone numbers you have supplied me. If for any reason I am unable to contact you or a family member and urgent professional veterinary attention is required I will transport your hound to the nearest veterinary surgery. Clients will be responsible for any vets bills for their hound whilst in my care however incurred.
Whilst I am insured for public liability clients should ensure that they have their own pet insurance.
